Linda and I (Sam) saw a need in Port Elizabeth for a puppy school that caters for " puppies with a difference."We wanted to offer a training schedule that encouraged dog lovers to put a little bit more into development of their puppies. We wanted to show people people that it is possible to train dogs using fun methods. Our classes have evolved and we have set up a very successful, hugely fun, puppy training school. Both Linda and I have trained dogs to top levels in Conformation, Obedience,Schutzhund, IGP, Dog Carting,Working Trials, Tracking Trials & Nose Work. I am a licenced Obedience, Working Trials, Tracking , Tracking Trials, Carting Judge and Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.Linda is also a Canine Good Citizen Evaluator and is qualified to judge at obedience and working trials events. Our objective is to bring fun and camaraderie back into the sport of dog training. we love to hear the laughter and banter on the field during our sessions.
Dr Charles Hayward has been our most gracious benefactor, allowing us to carry out our training sessions at his beautiful Oakleigh Park. He has supported and encouraged us throughout our endeavour and has helped in every way he can. We could never repay his generosity, but hope that he sees the benefit of his support in the results of what we are doing.
Our first level of training is a very basic socialising class, held on Tuesday evenings at 9th Ave Vet Practive (corner of 9th Ave and Prospect Road). Class starts at 18h00 and it is a 4 week course. At this level we teach puppies to learn. We initiate basic behaviours such as learning to respond to their name, Rear end awareness, Co-operative care and basic grooming techniques such as brushing and clipping of nails. The puppies learn to pay attention with other pups around. We use clickers, markers and positive reinforcement to create a co operative releationship. We discuss common problems along the developmental timeline that includes, house training, teething, puppy biting and many more! Provided that you do your homework this course will lay the foundation for more structured obedience training.
The 4 week course is available at no cost to 9th Ave Puppies. Click on the button to register!
Nose Work is Linda's passions and she has 2 classes a week. We train your dog to detect a specific odour - think Police Drug Detection Dog !
We run an online course in how to train your dog to become a odour detection dog and dogs love the Nose Work Game.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page to see when our next course will be posted.
